Van Theft Suspect Has More Charges PDF Print

Paul Ray Kirkland, arrested days ago by Appalachian State University Police in the theft of a university van, has been charged additionally by Boone Police. Kirkland was involved in an incident on August 8th where a university van was taken and wrecked.

Kirkland was hospitalized after the wreck and upon his release was charged by University Police with driving while intoxicated and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Boone Police received a report of a breaking and entering to a vehicle that occurred the same night as the university incident near Paolucci’s restaurant on King Street.  In that incident, a cellular phone apparently belonging to Paul Kirkland, was found in the victim’s vehicle.  He was subsequently charged with the crime.
Kirkland remains in the Watauga County Detention Center under a combined $10,000 in secured bonds.
