Platinum Paving has responded to the North Carolina Attorney General’s office inquiry into complaints filed by five High Country area residents about their business practices—by hiring an attorney.  Noelle Talley of the AG’s office said yesterday that the state and the attorney for Platinum are working toward a meeting over the allegations, but no date had been set.  Meanwhile predatory paving reports continue to come in, a Boone man telling his story by bringing a hand-written letter to the radio stations last week.  He said in the letter that he had been sealing his drive when approached by a man he named in the letter.  He was offered sealing services, then a second man came paved his drive—even areas he had told them not to work on—and he was given a $28,000 bill.  The man indicated the work was poor and that he called Boone Police who took photos of the work.
Talley, meanwhile, says the Attorney General’s office needs to hear from other victims—even if they have paid and might be embarrassed, "We would certainly encourage any consumers who've had dealings with this company that weren't to their satisfaction to please file complaints with our Consumer Protection division...In other cases that we've brought against problem pavers we've been able to go to court using consumer's complaints and actually get refunds for people in certain situations."  The address to file complaints on-line is or call toll-free1-877-5-NOSCAM for the written form to be mailed.  I would still like to hear your stories about dealing with potential scams of all sorts.  Email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
