The New England Patriots have released LB Marques Murrell.  The move was made on Monday to make room for OL Quinn Ojinnaka, who was serving a suspension to start the season. Murrell got off to a fast start before things went sour. He had one tackle in Sunday's season-opening win against Cincinnati. Full Story

UPDATED: Pioneers-Rockets game still on for Friday


The Watauga High football game in Asheville against defending Class 4A state champion A.C. Reynolds is still on as scheduled. The game will still be played Friday night, despite some tragic news on Monday. Gary Laws, the father of ACR coach Shane Laws (Newton-Conover and Appalachian State University) passed away unexpectedly. A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning at the First United Methodist Chruch in Conover.

Tanyi Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

Appalachian State University defensive end Lanston Tanyi (Shelby, N.C./Shelby) underwent surgery on Monday in Charlotte, N.C. for a toe injury sustained during fall camp.Tanyi's recovery time from the surgery on his left foot is expected to be 16 weeks.

UPDTATED: Mountaineers romp over Jacksonville, 45-14


Any ideas the Jacksonville Dolphins may had of pulling of a huge upset came to a crashing halt on Saturday. The Dolphins put their best foot forward for two-and-a-half quarters, but in the end Appalachian State prevailed 45-14 in its home opener in front of 28, 708 fans on what started as a rainy afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
