McVeigh Scores Twice, ASU Defeats UNCG, 2-1

ASU junior Sam McVeigh (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) had a breakout day, as she earned her first two goals of the season to lift Appalachian State women’s soccer (6-10-2, 2-6-2 SoCon) to a 2-1 victory over Southern Conference opponent UNCG (8-8-1, 7-2-1 SoCon) at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
The game gives Appalachian its sixth win of the season, one more than coach Sarah Strickland’s debut season in 2010.

The Watuaga High football team had a Senior Night to remember.
The Pioneers (6-4 overall; 4-1 Northwestern 3A/4A Conference), who had struggled offensively in recent weeks, erupted for a season-high 42 points as they blasted Hibriten 42-31 at frigid Jack Groce Stadium Friday night.
