CHAPEL HILL—For 40 years Woody Durham painted the pictures of Carolina Basketball and Football like no other as the Voice of the Tar Heels. One of the most beloved announcers in sports, Woody retired in 2011. The 1963 UNC graduate called more than 1,800 broadcasts on the Tar Heel Sports Network, winning the North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year award 13 times. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame honored Woody in 2015 with the Curt Gowdy Award for electronic media.
NEWLAND - Richie Schueler, a college basketball analyst for ESPN, is reporting that Avery High boy's basketball coach Scott Polsgrove will be named the men's basketball coach at Eastern Nazarene College, a Division III school near Quincy, MA., and a member of the Commonwealth Coastal Conference.
NEW ORLEANS - Two student-athletes that are no strangers to postseason honors added more hardware to their trophy cases as Arkansas State’s Aundrea Gamble and South Alabama’s Kevin Hill were respectively named the Sun Belt Female and Male student-athletes of the year as announced by the conference Wednesday.
