RICHMOND, Va. - Former Watauga High baseball player Ryder Jones belted a three-run homer in a four-run first inning as the Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Bowie Baysox 4-2 in game one of a twi-night doubleheader.

Hickory High soccer coach Brian Jillings has been named the Coach of the Year for girls’ soccer in 3A public schools by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association.

CHAPEL HILL—For 40 years Woody Durham painted the pictures of Carolina Basketball and Football like no other as the Voice of the Tar Heels. One of the most beloved announcers in sports, Woody retired in 2011. The 1963 UNC graduate called more than 1,800 broadcasts on the Tar Heel Sports Network, winning the North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year award 13 times. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame honored Woody in 2015 with the Curt Gowdy Award for electronic media.
