NCHSAA WOMENS STATE TENNIS FINALS THIS WEEKEND

Championships in singles and doubles in four different classifications are up for grabs this weekend as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association holds its annual women’s tennis tournament championships at four different sites. Semifinalists in both singles and doubles at the regional level qualify for the state championships.

McVeigh Scores Twice, ASU Defeats UNCG, 2-1

ASU junior Sam McVeigh (Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic) had a breakout day, as she earned her first two goals of the season to lift Appalachian State women’s soccer (6-10-2, 2-6-2 SoCon) to a 2-1 victory over Southern Conference opponent UNCG (8-8-1, 7-2-1 SoCon) at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
The game gives Appalachian its sixth win of the season, one more than coach Sarah Strickland’s debut season in 2010.
