Appalachian State University women’s tennis advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 Southern Conference Championship with a 4-1 win over Western

The Watauga High girls' soccer team shook off the shock of head coach Brittany Bolick stepping down at the end of the season and defeated Hibriten 2-0 Wednesday night at Jeff Storie Stadium in Lenior, N.C.

Despite six innings of near flawless pitching, the Appalachian State University baseball team was unable to maintain a two run lead, losing 4-2 to Wake Forest (24-15) Wednesday at the Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.

The Watuaga High boys' and girls' track teams won the Northwestern 3A-4A Conference championships Wednesday at Jack Groce Stadium. The Pioneers won their fifth consecutive NW3A/4A titles. The WHS girls won nine events and bested the field with 178 points. Hickory finished second with 153 points.

Hibriten High senior Drew Bolick was nearly untouchable Wednesday night. The right hander, who has signed with Western Carolina University, had a no-hitter for 5.1 innings before Colby Illich of the Pioneers broke it up with a solid single to center field in the sixth inning.
