The Lees-McRae softball team fell victim to a big inning in each game of its doubleheader while falling 11-1 and 10-2 to Newberry Saturday afternoon at Smith Road Complex in Newberry, S.C.

Chris Burgess (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins) poured in a career-high 19 points but it wasn't enough for Appalachian State University men's basketball in an 83-76 loss to Elon on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.

The Lees-McRae men's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the opening night of the Lindenwood Classic while winning a five-set thriller against Quincy in the opener, before losing 3-0 to host-Lindenwood in the night cap Friday evening at Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

Senior Kevin Morrison recorded a match-high 13 kills while the Lees-McRae men's volleyball impressed on both sides of the ball on its way to a sweep of McKendree, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13, to conclude play at the Lindenwood Classic Saturday morning at Robert F. Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.

Watauga High senior Jay Harrill was in a zone Friday night. Harrill, who is averaging a team-high 16.6 points-per-game, buried a career-high 32 points, including seven trifectas, as the Pioneers knocked off Freedom 75-65 Friday night in a Northwestern 3A/4A Conference game at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
