The Hickory Crawdads combined some early offense with standout pitching and a little good defense Friday night for a dominant 7-2 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.

It took a while---ten games to be exact----but the Watauga High girls' lacrosse team finished its season on a winning note Friday night. The Pioneers (1-10 overall; 1-9 North Carolina Conference 7) rallied from an early 5-1 deficit and defeated West Forsyth 10-9 in a NCC 7 game at Leigh Wallace Memorial Field.

The Watauga High baseball team slipped, stumbled and fell Friday night in its regular-season finale at Pioneer Field. South Caldwell, which clinched the Northwestern 3A-4A Conference championship Thursday night with a 3-0 win against Fred T. Foard, scored three runs in the first inning and defeated WHS 6-2 on Senior Night.

In a game that featured four lead changes, Western Carolina rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and hung on for a 10-9 win over Appalachian State University baseball on Friday evening at Hennon Stadium.

Following consecutive rainouts, the Hickory Crawdads (12-13) finally got on the field Thursday night. And the Crawdads earned a doubleheader split against
