The Watuaga High softball team took out its frustrations on Hickory Wednesday night. The Pioneers (2-6 overall; 2-5 Northwestern 3A-4A Conference) defeated Hickory 9-1 in a NW3A-4A Conference game at the WHS Softball Complex. The Pioneers pounded out a season-high 15 hits in the win.

Appalachian State University softball pitcher Alissa Schoelkopf (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was named the North Carolina Education Lottery Southern Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Maryah Sydnor of the Appalachian State University womens' basketball team capped off her successful junior campaign with another accolade as she was named NCCSIA First Team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association on Wednesday.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (29-8, 9-3), ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, swept Coker (15-18, 4-8) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader, 7-0 and 6-4, Wednesday afternoon at Bears Field.
