The Hickory Crawdads awoke from their slumber and exploded for a season high in runs and hits as they clobbered Greensboro 11-4 Friday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads (10-11) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

Dillon Dobson (Hamptonville, N.C./Starmount) hit two home runs and Appalachian State University baseball banged out a season-high 20 hits in a 14-6 rout over first-place Davidson on Friday night at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have extended quarterback Darian Durant's contract — through to 2016. Durant, who played at the University of North Carolina, led the Riders to a Grey Cup championship last year. He was signed to a new multi-year contract. Durant's previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2014 season.
