Eight "coaches who make a difference" by virtue of their exemplary sportsmanship will be honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association at the NCHSAA Annual Meeting.

Thirteen-time Southern Conference champion Furman holds the team lead and Chattanooga sophomore Emily McLennan has the individual lead after Sunday’s first round of play at the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Moss Creek Golf Club’s par-72, 5,941-yard North Course.

Highlighted by a three-run home run by Matt Brill (Coal Valley, Ill./Moline), Appalachian State University baseball scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to a 10-6 victory over The Citadel on Sunday afternoon at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

The Appalachian State University softball team is on a roll. The Mountaineers have won four of their last their last five games. They simply dominated Elon in the final game of their three-game Southern Conference weekend series.

The Watauga High boys' and girls' track teams changed venues on Saturday. They pulled out of the Taco Bell Invitational in Columbia, S.C., and competed at the Appalachian State University Invitational in Boone, instead.
