It's been a tough season for the Avery High football team, to say the least. The Vikings (4-6 overall; 1-4 Western Highlands 1A-2A Conference) suffered a 30-17 loss at Mountain Heritage Friday night.

The Ashe County High football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday night, and it was costly. Starmount defeated the Huskies 40-19 in Boonville, N.C. The loss drops Ashe County into a second-place tie with Starmount in the Mountain Valley 1A-2A Athletic Conference, one game behind Elkin.
