Lees-McRae senior Katelin Rooney and sophomore Jenah Tracy have been named to the Conference Carolinas Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Second-Team for their respective performances on the field, the conference office announced Friday afternoon.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (39-13), ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, was eliminated from the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Friday after splitting its pair of games.

Due to heavy rains, Friday night’s championship game between the Watauga High baseball team and Southampton Academy (Va.) was rained out. The game will be played on Saturday at a time yet to be announced.

The Carolina Panthers have exercised the fifth-year option on quarterback Cam Newton ’s rookie contract. Newton is now under contract through the 2015 season.
