Joseph Lowder was at it again Wednesday night. Only this time, Lowder, who has been Ashe County High’s most dominant pitcher this season, did it with his bat.

The Fred T. Foard High baseball team added to its program’s history Wedneday night by knocking off Hickory 7-4 in the championship game of the 24th Annual Catawba Easter Classic in Hickory, N.C.

Shivaun Landeros (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed) gave it her best shot on Wednesday. Unfortunately, she came up short as No.24 USC-Upstate knocked off the Appalachian State University softball team 1-0 at Sywassink/Lloyd Field.

Gardner-Webb scored six runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to hand Appalachian State University baseball a 10-6 defeat on Wednesday evening at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team, the No. 1 seed in the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, will face eighth-seeded Catawba in the quarterfinal round on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m., on the campus of Lincoln Memorial.
