The Ashe County High boys' soccer team defeated Watauga 3-2 Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams. It was reported that the Huskies defeated WHS for the first time in school history. And according to Ashe County soccer coach Wes Rousseau, the Huskies only tied Watauga in 2009;
Travis Demeritte came through in the clutch once again as his two-run double handed Hickory a 3-1, ten-inning win against Augusta Wednesday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
And the Watauga High football team, which produced eight wins last season (the most in a single season since 2007) is anxiously waiting to face its first test in Friday's season opener in Taylorsville, N.C. against Alexander Central.
