INDIANAPOLIS – Appalachian State University director of track and field and cross country John Weaver was elected the next Chairman of the NCAA Track and Field Rules Committee, effective September 1, 2016, announced by the NCAA on Monday.
Riders Release Corbin....REGINA, SK - The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League hreleased former Appalachian State University offensive lineman Will Corbin on June 12. Corbin signed with the Riders following his release with the Indianapolis Colts, who signed him as an undrafted free agent.
ARROWOOD RELEASED....The Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple A affiliate
of the Colorado Rockies in the Pacific Coast League, have released
right handed pitcher Ryan Arrowood, who played collegiately at
Appalachian State University. He was released on May 19. Arrowood made
six appearances for the Isotopes. He was 0-1 with a save and a 3.48
earned-run-average. In 10.1 innings, Arrowood gave up four runs, all
earned, on 10 hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts.
Hickory, N.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne University has elevated Luis Velez to
Director of Strength & Conditioning and Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Velez, a 2001 graduate of LR, has been an athletic trainer, preceptor
and adjunct instructor for Lenoir-Rhyne for the past 11 years.
BOONE - At least for now it looks like inddor football will become a piece of the High Country, beginning in the spring of 2017. According to the team's general manager, Willie Thompson, the team took a "huge step forward" when he told the Boone Town Council at a meeting on June 16 that Appalachian State University officials had given him the green light to play their home games at the Holmes Convocation Center.
