CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina junior guard/forward Theo Pinson will not play at Miami on Saturday (1/28). He rolled his right ankle after landing awkwardly while retrieving a rebound in Thursday evening’s win over Virginia Tech. Doctors continue to evaluate Pinson’s injury. There is no timetable for his return.

BOONE - Mo Gore, who played at Watauga High School and Appalachian State University has been named an assistant coach with the High Country Grizzlies of the National Arena League.

The Watauga High girl's basketball team has taken Freedom's best shot this season. Ariyana Williams burned WHS in their first meeting back in early Januay. Friday night, teammate, Amaryah Corpening got involved by pouring in a game-high 20 points as the Patriots won their 27th straight game in the Northwestern 3A-4A Conference. WHS WRESTLING....The 2017 Northwestern Athletic Conference wrestling tournament will be held on Saturday, January 28 at Patton High School.  The tournament site was moved from Watauga High School to Patton High because of the threat  of inclement weather in Boone.  Weigh-ins will begin at 9am at Patton,  with the tournament set to start at 10am.  Admission is $7.00.

WFMY-TV in Greensboro, N.C. is reporting that former North Carolina State University basketball player Charles Shackleford has been found dead. Kinston, N.C. Police have confirmed that report.
