Kannapolis, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators avoided the four-game sweep Sunday night by clobbering Hickory 10-3 at Intimidators Stadium.

CHAPEL HILL --- Virginia Tech scored twice in the ninth and held on to take a 4-3 win over No. 11 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium. After a Tyler Ramirez home run, Carolina loaded the bases with two outs before Cole Kragel got Eli Sutherland to foul out to end it. Phil Sciretta had three hits to lead the Hokies, who snapped a 17-game losing streak with the victory.

DURHAM - According to ESPN, Duke's freshman point guard Derryck Thornton has announced he is transferring. Thornton, a five-star recruit coming out of high school, started 20 games in his only season at Duke. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.6 assists, but saw his minutes fluctuate during most of ACC play despite being the only pure point guard on the roster.

The Colorado Rockies have not assigned former Appalachian State University pitcher Ryan Arrowood as of April 7. Arrowood, a member of the Albuquerque Isotopes in the Class AAA Pacific Coast League and the Hartford Yard Goats of the Class AA Eastern League last summer, was 2-3 with a 5.92 earned-run-average.
