WHS tennis opens playoffs at TCR PDF Print

Watauga High Athletics Director Tom Wright has annoiunced that the men's tennis team will open the state playoffs on the road Tuesday.

 

The Pioneers (14-2 overall; 12-0 and Northwestern 3A/4A Conference champions), will open the state playoffs at T.C. Roberson in Skyview. Ironiclaly, these teams were scheduled to play each other on March 29 in Skyview, but the match was cancelled and was not rescheduled.

The individual tournament, the Class 4A West Regional, will be held at Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte on Friday and Saturday. The PIoneers will have six qualifiers in the field: Steve Lake and Michael Smith in singles play; Brian and Nathan Geldmyer; Harrison Battle and Ryan Schweitzer in doubles play.

Tuesday's match at TCR (8-6) begins at 6 pm. The second-round of the state playoffs will be played May 11.  If WHS wins, the Pioneers would play the winner of Hopewell and Providence. If Hopewell (the No.1 seed from the I-Meck Conference) wins, WHS will play on the road. If  Providence (the No.2 seed from the Southwestern 4A Conference) wins, then the Pioneers would be at home.
