Retired Blowing Rocket Editor Passes Away PDF Print

burns.jpg2:26 p.m. - Jerry Burns, the former editor of the Blowing Rocket, passed away this morning.  He was 69-years-old.


Burns, who served as the editor for the Blowing Rocket for 44 years, retired from the paper last March.

Burns was also awarded with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine last March for his service to the community.  The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the highest civilian honor given to North Carolinians.

Burns also served the area as a volunteer member of the Blowing Rock Fire Department, the Blowing Rock Town Council, was a founder of the Blowing Rock Rescue Squad and several other civic endeavors.
