BLOWING ROCK -- While celebrating its 75th year, the Blue Ridge Parkway is looking to supply some summer jobs to high school students.
The National Park Service is recruiting high-school-age students for the Youth Conservation Corps, a summer work program to do work along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and is struggling to clean up after a harsh winter.
While other programs will do much of the heavy clean-up from winter storms, participants will take on projects such as building trails, maintaining fences, cleaning campgrounds and the like. Applications will be accepted through May 14.
For more information, contact the maintenance supervisor. In Blowing Rock, that is James Choate, 828-295-7350.
