10:33 a.m. - The Watauga High baseball team shook off a tough loss Friday night at North Davidson in a big way.

The Pioneers defeated Graham 5-0 on Saturday at the USA Olympic Complex in Cary. Graham was ranked No.1 in the state in the Class 2A pre-season poll by Impact Baseball. The Pioneers (2-1) were backboned by senior Cal Hardee, who picked up his second win of the year.
Hardee (2-0) went the distance, scattered two hits and struck out seven. Hardee has yet to give up an earned run in 14 innings of work this season. He also has 13 strike outs, he's given up four walks, and he has given up just five hits in his first two outings of the year.
The Pioneers travel to Winston-Salem Tuesday to play Mount Tabor at Ernie Shore Field. Our first broadcast of WHS baseball begins Friday when South Caldwell comes to town for the Northwestern 3A/4A opener.
Our coverage begins at 6 pm on Oldies 100.7 FM. In other games Saturday, South Caldwell (3-0) defeated West Caldwell, 9-0; Alexander Central picked up its first win of the year outlasting Mooresville 11-7 in a make-up game that was snowed out last Tuesday. The Cougars are 1-2.
