ASU at odds with town over Education Building PDF Print

While funding for Appalachian State University’s new college of education building is not official- the debate for the structure’s location is on.

ASU’s preferred location is along Howard Street near the First Presbyterian Church- both because it’s accessible and not in a neighborhood. There’s one snag, however- and that’s the Town of Boone. According to Mayor Loretta Clawson, one of the main issues is zoning - the proposed location is R3.

That’s not all. Problems with storm water, the building’s sides and parking all add up to the town’s reluctance to allow the structure, Clawson said. According to Clawson, ASU is considering other sites- and she hopes the debate will end there.
