Power Outages on the Rise PDF Print

As the snow in the High Country has turned to freezing rain, power outage reports are on the rise across the region.

At 2:00 Friday afternoon, Blue Ridge Electric is reporting 128 total outages; 66 are in Watauga, 43 in Caldwell, and 16 in Wilkes County.

BREMCO’s Renee Whitener said ice and heavy, wet snow on the power lines are to blame.

Blue Ridge Electric officials are most concerned about the potential for ice accumulation along the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Ice and snow are expected to accumulate through tomorrow.

Whitener said crews will remain on high alert to respond quickly if further power restoration efforts are needed.

If you’re a BREMCO customer and your power goes out, call the outage line at 1-800-443-2383.  You can also see BREMCO’s outage map at http://bremco.maps.sienatech.com/
