Oasis Seeks Crisis Line Volunteers PDF Print

Oasis is a local nonprofit organization devoted to providing assistance to those in situations of domestic violence and sexual assault. The organization was founded entirely on volunteer manpower and though they’ve grown to incorporate some paid positions, much of the work continues to be done by volunteers, especially the Crisis Telephone Line.

This month, Oasis is holding a campaign to increase their number of Crisis Line volunteers and to offer the training they need. Oasis Representative Melissa Gee said anyone over 18 years of age can become a volunteer. The comprehensive training course takes place over five days next week. Gee says that counselors are also available to work with crisis line volunteers. Volunteering for Crisis Line does not require leaving your home, but does require that you be able to remove yourself to a private area wherever your choose to take the calls. For more information about volunteering and taking the training, call Oasis at 264-1532. Also on this month’s agenda at Oasis – the second annual Take Back The Night takes place March 27th.
