apps_win_homecoming.jpgOver 25,000 fans were on hand as Appalachian State dismantled North Carolina Central with a 55-21 win this afternoon.

The ASU offense racked in 644 total yards, while the black shirt defense held the Eagles to only 191 yards, including only 5 rushing yards.

Despite throwing his first interception on the season, App’s senior quarterback, Armanti Edwards, went 17-29 for 237 yards and a touchdown through the air.  Edwards also rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns.  Edwards’ favorite target today was redshirt junior Matt Cline, who had eight catches for 107 yards.

Devon Moore continued to be the workhorse between the tackles for the black and gold as the redshirt junior rushed 11 times for 128 yards.

Senior linebacker, Jacque Roman, led the Mountaineer defense with eight sacks.  The defensive line was also able to sack the Eagles’ sophomore quarterback, Michael Johnson, three times on the afternoon.

After the game, ASU head coach Jerry Moore said, “There were a lot of good things that came out of the game today. We got to play a lot of players in the fourth quarter and getting those guys some experience is something that will pay off down the road.”

The Mountaineers take a trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina to tangle with the Wofford Terriers next weekend before hosting Georgia Southern on October 24th.
