The Appalachian State football is ranked tenth in The Sports Network Poll following Saturday's shootout loss against McNeese State.
The Mountaineers (0-2), who have a bye this week, open Southern Conference play at home against Samford at Kidd Brewer Stadium September 26.
Richmond (2-0), which survived a huge scare at Delaware, is still the top ranked team in the country. The Spiders received 122 of 145 first-place votes. Villanova (2-0) is No.2 followed by Northern Iowa, Montana and William & Mary to round out the top five.
The Colonial Athletic Association has five teams in the top seven spots and seven teams in the top 20. James Madison, which lost an overtime game at Maryland Saturday, is seventh.
McNeese State, which became the first non-conference team to beat ASU at Kidd Brewer Stadium in a regular-season game since Troy State in 2000, moves up from 16th to eighth in this week's poll. Elon (2-0) falls to 11th; Wofford (1-1) is 14th.
Mountaineer Talk returns to WATA 1450 AM Thursday night at 7 pm with the voice of the Mountaineers David Jackson. And our coverage of ASU-Samford September 26 will air at 1:30 pm on WATA.
