Lenoir-based Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation joined the state’s electric cooperatives in working with QVC to install a one-megawatt solar energy facility at QVC’s distribution center in Rocky Mount.
According to Renee Whitener of BREMCO, the company will purchase Renewable Energy Credits from the project and power generated from the facility will be put on the grid for use by consumers across the state.
Whitener explained that under North Carolina’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard, electrical cooperatives must obtain up to 10 percent of their energy through renewable resources or energy efficiency measures by 2018.
Southern Energy Management and SunPower Corporation were also very involved with the installation of the solar power facility in Rocky Mount.
