The United States made history today as Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor was approved as the first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court.

Senator Kay Hagan has supported Sotomayor since her name first emerged as President Barack Obama’s choice for Supreme Court Justice.

Before the Senate began discussing Sotomayor’s approval, Hagan told High Country Radio about how she met with the Supreme Court Justice one-on-one.

Hagan said, “I’ve had an opportunity to meet with her.  She came into my office and we had a wonderful time [I was able to] ask her questions.  I was waiting to see how the judicial nomination process went, but I am 100 percent in support of her.”

In a released statement today, Hagan said she was proud to support Sotomayor’s historic confirmation to the United States Supreme Court.
