Businessman and owner of the National Football League’s Miami Dolphins H. Wayne Huizenga’s Linville Ridge home was destroyed in a fire Saturday night.

According to Linville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Boyd Biggerstaff, the house was fully engaged by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

Firefighters were able to save the master bedroom, but little else, Biggerstaff said.

Biggerstaff was proud of the Linville, Banner Elk, Newland and Crossnore firefighters who responded.

No word yet on what caused the blaze in the multi-million dollar home, but Avery County Fire Marshal David Charles Vance, the State Bureau of Investigation Arson Unit and Insurance Investigators are all actively investigating the blaze.

The Huizengas were not home at the time of the incident. They were at their other residence in Banner Elk, according to Biggerstaff.
