McHenry to vote to uphold President Bush’s Stem Cell Research Veto PDF Print

Avery County Congressman Patrick McHenry has pledged to vote to uphold President Bush’s veto of the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which directs taxpayer money to fund, according to McHenry, the destruction of human embryos for research purposes.

In a statement released yesterday, McHenry denounced such research as “morally wrong,” saying “it’s based on the concept that you create life to destroy it.”

“Scientific discovery should never compromise our moral integrity,” he said.

The House voted 247 to 176 to pass the legislation after it cleared the Senate, 63-34 in April. The margins are short of the two-thirds supermajority that would be necessary to override a presidential vote.
