Former Appalachian State quarterback Richie Williams made his debut with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League Friday night.
He played in the annual Blue and Gold scrimmage at Canada Inns Stadium. Williams, who saw limited action, completed two of five passes for 21 yards and was sacked once. He also had three carries for 17 yards. All of this in nine minutes of work. The teams scrimmaged for a little more than an hour.
Williams, who led ASU to its first national championship in 2005, was signed by Winnipeg as a free agent in early June. He played three years with the Hamilton Tiger Cats before his release in May.
The Blue Bombers will play their exhibition opener Wednesday night at home against Hamilton, Richie’s old team. The season opener will be in Edmonton on July 2.
