While Buzz Peterson was named Appalachian State’s new head men’s basketball coach two weeks ago, he was officially introduced to the community this morning at a press conference at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center.

Peterson referred to his last tenure at ASU and said the first time he was at Appalachian he was young and was looking to move up the coaching ranks quickly.  Peterson said, “[I was] trying to catch that shooting star and get to the moon and make that quick trip up there.  Now I’m looking for a chance to make a difference and a lasting impression.”

Peterson said his family would live in Charlotte for at least a year.  The coach said, “We have a daughter who will be a senior in high school next year who’s moved so much, and to move that child again, I just couldn’t see it happening.  I will have to be able to be away and commute to them for at least a year.”

Peterson is a two-time SoCon Coach of the Year and led ASU to 79 wins and a conference crown in his four seasons as the Mountaineers’ head coach.
