Well, the Watauga High baseball team will have to wait until Friday to play its semi-final game in the Northwestern 4A Conference tournament.
And they have the weather to thank for it. For the second day in a row, the East Burke-Alexander match-up was rained out. It will be made up on Thursday at Shuey Field in Morganton at 7 pm. The winner of that game will play WHS in the semi-finals on Friday at MS Deal Stadium on Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm. The Pioneers (16-6 overall, and NW4A regular-season champions) are the number one seed and received a first-round bye. Friday’s second semi-final game will feature South Caldwell and A.C. Reynolds at 7 pm. The championship game will be played on Saturday night at 7 pm. Our coverage for Friday’s semi-final game begins at 4 pm on 100.7, MAC-FM.
South Caldwell advanced on Wednesday night by beating Freedom 8-4 down in Sawmills; ACR advanced by upending McDowell 5-3 down in Marion. The state playoffs will begin on Friday, May 15th. WHS will most likely play Weddington, the No.5 seed from the Southwestern 4A Conference in the opening round.
Also, the T.C. Roberson game rained out for a third time on Tuesday, will not be rescheduled.
And WHS softball has been rained out for the second-consecutive day. The game will be made up on Thursday with the varsity going first at 4:30 pm at the Sports Complex.
The NW4A Conference track championships were rained out as well on Wednesday. They’ve been rescheduled for Thursday at A.C. Reynolds.
