|Sherrill Wins Gatorade Award|

Junior Vada Sherrill of Alexander Central High has been named the 2014 North Carolina Gatorade Softball Player of the Year. Sherrill is the second Alexander Central player to win the Gatorade Award.
Chelsea Wilkinson won the award in 2011 and 2012. Sherrill, a second baseman, led the Cougars to the a 35-0 record, the NCHSAA Class 4A State Championship, and a No.1 ranking in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 poll last spring. Sherrill, who scored a school record 60 runs last season, was the Northern Piedmont 3A-4A Conference Player of the Year, she was a Class 4A All-State selection, and she has a 3.94 grade-point-average.
Pitcher Lexi Shubert of Fred T. Foard won award last season.
