Two former Appalachian State University football players found new employment this past Labor Day weekend. Wide receiver Tony Washington, who was not selected in the National Football League Draft last April before he signed as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts, was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday and he was added to their practice squad.

Ironically, Washington was released by the Colts last Monday, August 25.

Defensive back Ed Gainey, who was released by the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League last May before he was picked up by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and added to their practice squad in June, was promoted to the Ti-Cats' team roster on Sunday.

Gainey made his Hamilton debut Monday in a 13-12 win against the Toronto Argonauts. Gainey made three special-teams tackles and he picked off a pass.
