Senior Jessi Stuart (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored the only goal for the Appalachian State University field hockey team in a 4-1 loss to Ball State on Monday at the Brandon and Erica M Adcock Field at Appalachian Field Hockey Stadium.




Ball State took advantage of an early run out to score ts first goal of the match. Sophomore Colleen McGlynn received a pass from Bianca Velez and scored in the upper right corner to take the 1-0 lead.


With a little more than 10 minutes left on the clock, senior Dana Wetmore (Bethlehem, Md./Walter Johnson) found Stuart in front of the goalie and Stuart got the shot passed the goalie to tie the match.


The Cardinals scored the next three goals of the match. Junior Bethany Han scored two goals in the second period while Merina Morley added the third goal.


Junior Cristina Ceppi (Vienna, Va./James Madison) was credited with the loss for the Mountaineers and had four saves. The Mountaineers outshot the Cardinals 11-9 in the match. Junior Shelby Henley moved to 2-0 on the season for Ball State and had six saves in the match.


Appalachian will travel to Hanover, N.H. on Friday to take on Pacific at 1 p.m. in its first NorPac conference match of the season before returning home on Sunday to play Rider at 1 p.m.
