The Hickory Crawdads snapped a 1-1 tie with a three-run rally in the ninth inning Friday night. Hickory () utilized two hits, two walks, and an error to come away with a 4-1 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Purdue Stadium.

The winning rally began with a leadoff walk by Marcus Greene followed by a sacrifice bunt by Luis Marte and a groundout by Nick Urbanus that moved Greene to third base with two outs. Then with Evan Van Hoosier at the plate, the Crawdads snapped the 1-1 tie, thanks to a passed ball by Shorebirds All-Star catcher Chance Sisco that allowed Greene to score for a 2-1 lead.

Van Hoosier eventually walked, Ronald Guzman singled to right before Zach Cone delivered an RBI double from Zach Cone that made it 3-1. A throwing error by shortstop Jared Breen of the Shorebirds allowed another run to score, making it 4-1.

The game featured a nifty pitching duel between David Ledbetter of the Crawdads (78-75 overall; 37-30, second half of the South Atlantic League season) and Bennett Parry of the Shorebirds (65-71; 27-40). The two hurlers navigated through four scoreless frames to start the game before Hickory scored in the top of the fifth on a double by Urbanus and an RBI single by Van Hoosier for a 1-0 lead. Delmarva responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Tanner Rust lined his first home run of the year to right field that tied the game, 1-1.

Hickory reliever Patrick Kaminska (4-1) earned the win with a perfect inning of work in the eighth; teammate Jose Valdespina picked up his ninth save with a scoreless ninth inning. Donnie Hart (1-3) took the loss after giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits and three walks over two innings pitched.

Cone ended the game going 2-4 with an RBI double and a walk; Guzman went 2-5 with a double and a run scored; Urbanus finished 1-5 with a double and a run scored. The Crawdads (37-30) take on the Shorebirds (27-40) tonight in game two of their four-game series at 7:05 p.m.
