The Watauga High junior varsity football team erupted for 27 unanswered points in the second half enroute to a 36-6 win against Ashe ?County Thursday night at Huskies Stadium in West Jefferson, N.C.
The Pioneers (2-0) led 9-6 at halftime, but a pair of touchdowns on consecutive possession to start the second half gave WHS a 21-6 lead, Emory Wallace scored on a 27 yard score; for a touchdown, and Joey Watson stepped in front of a Jake Richardson pass and returned it 65 yards for a score.
Following a three-and-out by Ashe County, Watauga marched 51 yards for another touchdown. Quarterback Hamilton Castle hooked up with Case Taylor on a 24-yard TD pass. Leading 28-6, Watson closed things out with a 25-yard run. Watauga has a bye next week. The Pioneers travel to Avery on September 11.
