The Lees-McRae women’s volleyball team was tabbed 11th in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches’ poll, the league office announced

Wednesday. The Bobcats look to bounce back from a tough 2013 campaign and return three key players.

Junior Jordan Banta (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomores Avalon Liscio (Naples, Fla.) and Haylee Leonard (Wallburg, N.C.) return to coach Dave Schmidlin’s squad while his team will boast nine freshmen and two junior transfers.

Liscio paced LMC in 2013 in kills per set (2.77), digs (210) and digs per set (1.96). Banta tied for the team lead in aces (24) while finishing second in kills per set (1.74).

LMC will open its season with a quartet of matches (Sept. 5 & 6) in Winston-Salem, N.C. before playing another four in Aiken, S.C. the following weekend. The Bobcats will please the home crowd for six consecutive conference matches (Sept. 16-Oct. 4).

Belmont Abbey claimed the top spot and is favored to three-peat after posting 28 wins last season, including a 22-match win streak. King (Tenn.) was selected second while Barton swiped third. Limestone and Mount Olive tied for fourth while Erskine, North Greenville, Pfeiffer and Converse rounded-out the top-10.
