The Ashe County High girls' golf team fired a 162 in its season-opening match Tuesday and finished second to South Stokes at the Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy, N.C.




The Huskies finished six shots behind the Sauras, who paced the field with a 156. East Surry finished third with a 164; Mount Airy, the host school, finished fourth with a 169.


Sarah Hardin paced the Huskies with a 51, leaving her ten shots behind the leading medalist, Nicole Rogers of South Stokes, who paced the field with a 41. Hayley Hagwood of Mount Airy and Whitney Cox of East Surry finished in a third-place tie, 11 shots back with a 52.


Savannah Brooks of the Huskies fired a 55; Olivia Barr had a 56; Alexis Howell fired a 63. The Huskies travel to Linville Ridge for a match next Tuesday, September 2.
