LMC Mens' Soccer Picked Fourth In Coaches' Poll PDF Print

The Lees-McRae men’s soccer team was selected to finish fourth in the Conference Carolinas coaches’ preseason poll, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

 

 

 

The Bobcats boast 11 upperclassmen, including seniors James Galvani (High Wycombe, England) and James Smith (Eastbourne, England).

 

Galvani has is well-represented in the LMC record books while holding the record in shots per match (3.95) and sitting third in shots (221). He is fifth in match-winning goals (five), tied for seventh in goals (27), eight in goals per match (0.48), ninth in points (64) and points per match (1.14).

 

Smith sits tenth in shots (117).

 

LMC returns nine starters, including CC reigning Freshman of the Year, Jordan Wright (Winchburg, West Lothian, Scotland). Wright led the team in every offensive statistical category while appearing in 15 matches, including 12 starts.

 

Four Conference Carolinas All-Conference representatives will suit up for the coach Lee Squires’ squad this year. Wright and Marvyn Rieger (Frankfurt, Germany) were selected to the second-team while Matthew Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Andrew Shoemaker (Raleigh, N.C.) claimed third-team accolades.

 

The Bobcats finished with a 5-3-0 conference mark in 2013 while the offense notched at least two goals on 10 occasions in 17 contests.

 

Limestone was picked to three-peat as league champions and are ranked No. 21 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

 

Erskine was tabbed second while Barton rounded out the top three.

 

Pfeiffer was selected fourth in the poll, followed by King, Belmont Abbey, Mount Olive and North Greenville respectively rounding-out the standings.

 

LMC opens regular season play at Catawba Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Bobcats home opener comes against North Georgia Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
