Appalachian State University men’s cross country was picked 13th in the annual preseason U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, announced by the office on Monday.

“We appreciate the respect that other coaches have given us,” said head coach Michael Curcio. “We have a very strong region with teams like Furman and Wake Forest, but I definitely believe we belong in the top 12-15. Those standings could change every week with the talent that is in our region. We’ll be up against Wake this weekend at home and that will give us a good indication of where early on.”

The Mountaineers welcome many newcomers to the roster, but among the mainstays returning to the roster is Kyle McFoy (Newark, Del./ The Tatnall School). The junior runner finished sixth at the Southern Conference championship meet last season.

McFoy set a new personal record in the 8,000 meter run at Lehigh’s Paul Short Run with a time of 24:49.50. The Apps will open the season on Friday, Aug. 29 at home with the Covered Bridge Open, which is set to begin at 5 p.m.
