The Watauga High boys soccer team bounced back from Tuesday's tough loss at Ashe County and walloped McDowell 5-0 in its home opener at Jack Groce Stadium.

Leading the way was Tucker Chasteen. The WHS (1-1) senior scored three times in Wednesday's lopsided win. He got things rolling with his first goal of the night at the 22-minute mark of the first half. Jett Dhing picked up his second assist of the season on the play.

"We had so many chance early on," said WHS coach Woody McKay. "We finally broke through, thanks to Tucker. Once he scored, our shots finally started going in."

Adam Hendrix and Dylan Hill scored the other WHS goals. Hill, Raheim Andrews and Raul Foroni each had an assist. The Pioneers travel to A.C. Reynolds Monday night. McDowell won the junior varsity game, 1-0.

NOTES: The Pioneers are nursing some injuries right now. Midfielder Nick Eller, goalkeeper Will Spinetto and defender Zack Valet are all on the shelf. That trio did not play Wednesday night.
