The practice ended on a high note when co-offensive coordinator Dwayne Ledford got a second chance to field a Bentlee Critcher (South Daytona Beach Fla./Warner Christian Academy) punt in a continuation of Fridays punt-catching showdown between the offensive and defensive lines.
The results of Fridays contest were disputed because strength and conditioning coach Mike Sirignano appeared to trip up Ledford he attempted to catch a booming punt from Critcher. Following Sirignanos alleged interference and Ledfords subsequent miss, defensive line coach Mark Ivey hauled in a punt to give the defense a 3-2 victory and the right to watch the offense run sprints alone following Mondays practice.
Standing alone at midfield on Monday, Ledford made a falling catch on another high boot from Critcher. The contest was officially declared a tie by head coach Scott Satterfield and the entire team was excused from post-practice conditioning.
Fall camp concluded after 20 practices in 18 days. The Mountaineers will not practice on Tuesday as their focus shifts to the classroom for Appalachian States first day of the academic year. The Apps return to the practice field on Wednesday, when installation of the gameplan for the Aug. 30 season opener at Michigan begins in earnest.
