The Texas Rangers announced today that Hickory Crawdads outfielder Ryan Cordell has been promoted to the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, becoming the 11th 'Dad this season to move up in the Rangers organization.
Cordell, 22, leaves the Crawdads as the team leader in batting average (.321), OBP (.388), OPS (.891), and stolen bases (18), while also hitting eight home runs, 18 doubles, and four triples with 40 RBI in 73 games played. An 11th round selection by the Rangers in the 2013 MLB Draft out of Liberty University, Cordell was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week on May 26th.
The Crawdads will not receive an immediate replacement for Cordell, leaving the 'Dads roster with 24 active players.
Cordell joins fellow 2014 Crawdads Kellin Deglan, Nomar Mazara, Jose Monegro, Josh McElwee, Cody Kendall, Kevin Pucetas, Lewis Brinson, Nick Vickerson, Abel De Los Santos, and Kevin Torres as players who have moved up in the Rangers organization this season.
