The Southern Conference announced Wednesday (Aug. 6) that the Furman-Samford football game slated for Oct. 25 has been added to the league’s package with ESPN3. Kickoff between the Paladins and the Bulldogs is set for 1:30 p.m. in Greenville, S.C. Those two teams shared the league crown with Chattanooga last fall as

all three posted identical 6-2 records in SoCon play. The Paladins and Bulldogs were tied for second place in the preseason coaches’ poll behind the Mocs.

The addition of the Furman-Samford game gives the league 17 games on ESPN3 this fall that feature Southern Conference programs. The conference also has six games slated for the newly formed American Sports Network (ASN), an initiative launched by the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

ESPN3 is available in approximately 75 million homes to fans who receive their Internet connection from an affiliated service provider. The network is also available at no cost to 21 million U.S. college students and U.S.-based military personnel. ESPN3 programming is also available to subscribers through Xbox LIVE and through the free WatchESPN app available on smartphones and tablets. The WatchESPN app is also available through Apple TV and Roku video players.

The American Sport Network consists of commercial TV stations owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group and reaches close to 40 percent of all TV households in the United States with 167 stations in 77 markets. A full list of ASN affiliates and a complete list of broadcasts will be finalized as the season draws nearer.

The 2014 season begins on Aug. 28 when Mercer hosts Reinhardt University and Chattanooga visits Central Michigan. The league’s other six teams hit the gridiron Saturday, Aug. 30.
