Matt Duble has been named the Lees-McRae womens basketball assistant coach, announced the Vice President Director of Athletics and Club Sports Craig McPhail Tuesday afternoon.
With Matt, we have gained a person with significant experience in womens basketball, a hunger and passion for NCAA Division II, as well as a warm personality to help continue the growth of our womens basketball program, said McPhail. I am looking forward to working for him and helping him and Coach Michele Williams achieve all of their goals. His diverse skill set is appreciated as I am certain he will be involved and engaged with many projects in our athletic department.
Duble wrapped up a year as the assistant womens basketball coach at the University of Alabama-Huntsville while the Chargers set a NCAA Division II record for most consecutive games (six) with 100+ points. The squad finished with 15 wins and third in the Gulf South Conference. Two Chargers were named to the 2014 Daktronics All-South Region Team with Dubles assistance.
Prior to UAH, Duble was the assistant womens basketball coach at Covenant College (2003-2012) in Lookout Mountain, Ga. During his tenure, he served as a junior varsity head coach during the schools transition from NAIA to Division III. The Scots produced three All-Americans, a conference championship and National Tournament appearance while Duble was on staff.
The Covenant College graduate (2012) provided assistance to the Scots sports information office for a total of six years.
I am happy and excited to have Matt join our basketball program. I believe his knowledge and work ethic will help our team take the next step needed toward becoming a championship caliber program, praised Williams.
He is NCAA Division II and III recruiting certified as well as CPR and First Aid certified.
